ELLIOT HEIDELBERGER: I think the most important thing about choosing an attorney is to feel comfortable with that attorney. You’re putting your money and your children’s decisions in the hands of someone else. And I think it’s really important that you feel that that person is looking out for your best interests. Because the results of a divorce case have an impact on most people’s lives for a very long time, it’s really important for the people to select the lawyer that’s going to do the best possible job for them. I don’t think anybody has anything to lose by coming in for a free consultation. They get the benefit of talking to an attorney, who is knowledgeable about their problems and can answer their questions and get a feel for whether they like the attorney or not. I think it’s important for them to meet a couple of attorneys, get an idea of the different personalities of the attorneys, the different ideas that the attorneys have about their case so that they can make an informed decision and make sure that they feel that the attorney they’re going to choose is the one that they feel the most comfortable with.
